Media production is dominated by global institutions, which sell their products and services to national audiences. To what extent do you agree with this statement?

The media industry has changed over the years. while there are many companies. media production is dominated by the conglomerates such as Disney. these companies are able to build the big budget films that gross the most money and attract the best stars such as with Star wars; the force Awakens. however there are some companies which can still make good films that are successful like Ex-Machina which go against the norm. but they won't make as much money as they could do if they were made by a conglomerate.

Studios like Disney are able to make a plethora of films through many different studios. A few examples is Lucasfilms and Star wars and Pixar and Monsters Inc. another thing they have along with good production companies for their films. they also own TV Channels; Theme parks across the world; Radio stations amongst others. they use all of this to appeal to their target audience of children but they also appeal to adults with films such as the Force Awakens. in truth. Disney tries to cater for all ages with their films to make sure they meet all 4 quadrants of a target audience. This is evident with The Force Awakens as it appeals to the older fans of the saga, caters for the kids who are going to grow up with the films and also has a PEGI rating of 12 meaning it's a ideal family film. When advertising the Force Awakens. Disney used synergy to try and market it to all ages. they did this with YouTube trailers; TV Adverts; Toys; CD'S and other merchandise to make it appeal to a wide audience.

On the other hand. Ex-Machina didn't have as wide an area to sell their product into. they only had a Cd soundtrack released on digital download or vinyl. as well the usual trailers and TV adverts. Which is way they had to pull a PR stunt with their tinder campaign to try and create attention and hype for it.
